Winter Garden / Impressionism

project overview

The Winter Garden / Impressionism pattern collection was inspired by the visual world and distinctive stylistic elements of Impressionism. During the design process, I drew inspiration from Impressionist painting’s use of color, its painterly surfaces, and its more fluid forms, adapting these elements to my own illustrative language. I retained the original Winter Garden theme the atmosphere of botanical gardens, the richness of the plant world, and the distinctive architectural structures of greenhouses while reinterpreting it through a new visual approach using the stylistic elements of Impressionism. As a result, the botanical and architectural elements appear in a less rigid, more painterly, and more atmospheric form. The collection consists of hero, secondary, and blender patterns that form a system in which the patterns can be combined with one another. The goal of the design was to reinterpret the original theme within a contemporary pattern universe in which motifs from nature and the built environment are intertwined with the sensitive, painterly character of Impressionism.
