Iznik Wreath

the iznik wreath project reinterprets the ornamentation and painting techniques of 14th–18th-century turkish iznik ceramics through the lens of contemporary textile art. during the design process, i studied the characteristic floral motifs, compositional principles, and color palette of iznik ceramics, and then used them to develop my own illustrations and motif system. the project centers on the reconstruction of the traditional painting process. i broke down the motifs into three visual layers: dotted contours, distinctive line drawings, and colored surfaces, which together evoke the steps involved in creating the original ceramics. the final compositions took the form of large, circular textile works, in which the wreath shape simultaneously references the structure of the ceramic bowls and the symbolism of continuous cyclical movement. the aim of the project is to offer a contemporary reinterpretation of historical ornamentation and to explore the connection between craft traditions and textile design. photographer: péter bakó
