Wabi-sabi

The Wabi-sabi project explores the aesthetics of transience, the aging of materials, and natural transformation. One of the starting points for the design process was a set of previously used kitchen towels provided to me by Meron Coffee & Brunch in Budapest. The stains, discoloration, and other marks that formed on the textiles through everyday use created spontaneous visual surfaces that the design The resulting stains, discoloration, and textural changes are presented not as flaws, but as new visual qualities. I digitally processed selected details from the resulting surfaces and the stains on the used kitchen towels, then transformed them into repeating pattern systems using various compositional principles. The aim of the project was to demonstrate that the natural aging of the material and the marks left by everyday use can become a source of inspiration in their own right, where randomness and deliberate design complement each other to create contemporary surface patterns.
