Character Pattern Systems

project overview
The Character Pattern Systems project explores how the visual identities of fictional characters can be translated into surface pattern systems. Inspired by the contrasting characters Thomas Shelby and Ada Shelby from Peaky Blinders, the project uses their distinctive personalities, clothing, color palettes, materials, and visual atmospheres as starting points for pattern development. Visual references associated with each character were analyzed and abstracted into individual motifs, resulting in two contrasting pattern families. Through repetition, reflection, rotation, shifts in scale, and rhythmic variation, these motifs were developed into interconnected surface compositions. Moving beyond their original references, the final patterns retain the distinct visual character and atmosphere of each figure while creating new rhythms, structures, and surface relationships.
